Yusmarg Travel Guide: Plan Your Perfect Trip

Meadows of Jesus, also known as Yusmarg, is a large area of lush pastureland in the Bagdam district. Yusmarg is an amazing tourist destination that, in the most basic manner, teaches people to revere nature. It is a proud area of the Kashmir Valley. Explore the pathways that lead to remote locations like Nilnag and Sang-e-Safed Valley. Yusmarg is a small slice of paradise in and of itself, free from the constraints of the ordinary.

Yusmarg, the crown jewel of the Bagdam area, is home to numerous picturesque locations. Tourists are mesmerised by its natural beauty at places like Sang-e-Safed Valley, and Yusmarg is renowned for having some exceptional flower springs. The PirPanjal range has some of its highest peaks, including Tattakutti (4,725 m) and Sunset Peak (4,746m). The gorgeous river Doodh Ganga adds to the adventure and difficulty of this location.

Skiing is possible on Yusmarg’s formidable natural slopes for thrill seekers. On the other hand, the sacred shrine of Charar-e-Sharif is said to bless the entire territories and to guard the land against all types of disasters. Visitors are attracted to Yusmarg by its ageless beauty and are compelled to return occasionally.

Best time to visit Yusmarg

The best months to visit Yusmarg are in the spring and summer, from April to June, and in the fall, from late August to early October.

Yusmarg typically remains closed to visitors throughout the winter because snowfall has blocked the roads. In the winter, you might only be able to travel as far as Charar-e-Sharif.

How to Reach Yusmarg

Yusmarg is located about 47 kilometres from Srinagar and can be reached there in 2 hours. Ideally, you can drive to Yusmarg from Srinagar. You should expect to pay between Rs2000 and Rs2500 for a cab, including the driver and petrol. To travel to Yusmarg, you can also rent a motorcycle from Srinagar.

By Air: Although Yusmarg lacks a domestic or international airport, the Delhi International Airport offers excellent connections to the region. Yusmarg is about 22 kilometres from the airport. Direct flights are also offered from other significant cities, including Mumbai and the Jammu & Kashmir region’s Leh area.

By Road: Visitors can travel locally by bus to Chrarar e Sharief, a town in Jammu and Kashmir’s Badgam region. About 40 kilometres separate Chrarar e Sharief from Srinagar. Visitors can use taxis or cabs to travel from here to Yusmarg. The fact that the road from the Chrarar e Sharief to Yusmarg is closed during the winter should be made extremely clear in this context.

By Train: Visitors must first go to the Jammu Tawi or Udhampur railway stations, from where state-run buses and private taxis are readily available, in order to reach Yusmarg. You can also travel to Budgam Railway Station, which is only 25 kilometres away, to get to Yusmarg.

Places to Visit in Yusmarg

Around Yusmarg, there are a few tourist hotspots and a number of short and long trekking trails. A list of Yusmarg’s attractions is provided below.

Doodhganga Trek: The most popular trek and attraction in Yusmarg is the Doodhganga trek. From Yusmarg, where you can climb down to the river bed, the river is just 2 kilometres away. A pony is another option.

Nilnag Lake Trek: Nil Nag Lake is just a short 4-kilometer hike from Yusmarg and is situated next to Gogji Pathri Village. A few kilometres away from Doodhganga, Nilnag is a high altitude lake surrounded by a pine forest. It is recommended to bring a guide with you if you plan to participate in the Nilnag Lake Trek. Ponies can also be rented to transport you to and from Nil Nag Lake.

Sang-e-Safed Valley: The “White Rocks” or Sang-e-Safed Valley, which is about 10 kilometres from Yusmarg, is well-known for its frozen lake. The Doodhganga stream cuts an oval-shaped swath through the valley. Sang-e-Safed Valley is also accessible by pony. The excursion will take virtually the whole day to complete.

Lidder Mad and Haijan: These two meadows are located 4 kilometres from Yusmarg and are on the route to Sang-e-Safed. If you don’t have much time, you can visit these two meadows and then return to Yusmarg. Keep in mind that you can only hike to Sang-e-Safed if you are staying at Yusmarg or if you have your camping equipment. It is also very advised that you bring a guide.

Doodhpathri Meadow and Tosa Maidan: From Yusmarg to the Doodhpathri meadows, there is a hiking path as well. According to what I’ve heard, the distance from Doodhpathri to the starting point of the trip is between 12 and 15 kilometres. Consequently, the walk cannot be completed in a single day. It takes a long time to reach Tosa Maidan from Yusmarg, but it is now possible.

Charar-e-Sharif: A little town called Charar-e-Sharif may be found on the road to Srinagar, 18 kilometres from Yusmarg. The Dargah of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, also known as Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali, is one of the most revered Sufi shrines in this location. In the early 15th century, he was well-known as a Sufi mystic who was adored by both Muslims and Hindus. He was also known as Sheikh-ul-Alam and Nand Rishi.
